IN THE DOG HOUSE (BEDDINGTON)

March 2026. Beddington. South London.

Wallington. Bandonhill. Hackbridge. Beddington, where I head now to explore the vibrant cultural scene.

Names to conjure with, as you wander aimlessly west of Croydon and stare back to where the streets are made of gold.

Not many pubs round here, at all,

just an Arts & Craft roadhouse with Doom Bar,

and a micropub, tucked into the shopping arcade between Mum’s Cafe and the funeral director, the circle of life.

The Dog House looks ominously closed at 15:58, but at that moment a chap arrives and bang on 16:00 I’m in.

It’s very “Kent micro”, but there’s no high stools, which is a win.

The Untamed IPA from Kent Brewery is the beer of the week, a gorgeously chewy pale (NBSS 4.5),

but the landlord is the star. Chatty without being intrusive, and a fount of local knowledge.

If only I hadn’t spotted the evidence of his football allegiance…
