October 2025. Brasov. Romania.

Following lard and brownies at Szimpa Mrs RM needed something more substantial before we left Sfantu Gheorge alone to the tourist rush these last posts will no doubt create.
So, for the record (i.e. to jog Mrs RM’s memory when she comes to her own blog), here’s the carbonara and Ursus IPA in smart new Fresca 33.

Great home-made pasta too, and possibly the best lunch of the trip. Put your preconceptions of Romania on hold; these Transylvanian towns were modern and easy to negotiate.
Back in Brasov that evening, Mrs RM had marked her Google map with cherries (dunno why cherries, probably Freudian),

and I think we did most of them those first two nights,

Brasov Old Town is a compact place that would have been improved by NOT RAINING !

OK, let’s do the Black Church.

where we entered with our Β£4 tickets to find ourselves unexpectedly in the middle of an organ recital.

Press “PLAY” to hear a bit.
Disappointingly not Toccata in Fugue by Sky.
Something light for supper after that,

the famous bean and ham soup in a carved out loaf (Β£6.50) at La Ceaun, which felt a bit like a military operation to feed tourists as quickly and happily as possible.

Yep, bit too many carbs that day.
Those aren’t cherries, they’re tomatoes to show the outlets selling tomato gose.

Heh. π
“Mrs RM had marked her Google map with cherries (dunno why cherries, probably Freudian),”
I still say they look like apples.
“Brasov Old Town is a compact place that would have been improved by NOT RAINING !”
That holds true for any tourist, anywhere, at any time.**
** (Except Tofino, BC, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. People actually book rooms there whenever a big storm is expected to come sweeping in off of the Pacific Ocean)
“OK, letβs do the Black Church.”
Looks more white and greyish to me.
“where we entered with our Β£4 tickets”
Pounds? I though Romania used the leu, in (cough) lieu of the Euro. π
“the famous bean and ham soup in a carved out loaf ”
My wife had something similar on the menu when she had her lunch truck.
“Yep, bit too many carbs that day.”
Between that and the rain, you probably slept well that night.
Cheers
