September 2025. Sheffield.
Yes ! Into September, and only an estimated 33 posts to catch up before month-end, which will surely thrill reader Russ.
A difficult month so far (parental stuff), but the arrival of a new GBG is always joy, and the Sheffield ticker also has a little trail in aid of Mind to do.

True North have put together a collection of pubs across the city selling a special cask and keg beer; but one of those (or something you actually like) and 25p goes to Mind. And if I walk to the whole 26 I’ll actually lose the calories I put on. (I wish).
Good art trail, too. This one is called, bizarrely, “Heron & Kingfisher” by Peachz,

which sits opposite the Shiny new Sheff buildings next to Pounds Park. Let’s start the marathon at Kapital, Pub No. 3, a very good place to start as Julie Andrews sang.

Does Sheffield need a European style beer bar with Budvar tank lager ?

I’m not sure. It was packed on opening weekend, quieter on my midweek visits, and I haven’t had the pork knuckle yet.
But you sense that it’s something Sheffield needs to compete with Manchester and Leeds and Grimsby, having persuaded the Scandi clothes stores to set up shop recently.

I’m not a big fan of the Budvar; are CAMRA members allowed to say that ? But it’s friendly and has sours and even a decent non-alcoholic Rothaus (honestly).

Bring over a barrel of Uerige and I might yet be converted.
I didn’t even know about Kapital – apart from the best seller by Karl Marx, of course. Now I’ll have to go to Wellington Street to take a photo for Pubs Galore. If I tell them I read about their new bar on your blog, will I get a discount?

Tell them you’re from CAMRA. See if that works.

“which will surely thrill reader Russ”
Russ has had an epiphany with regards to ‘life, the universe, and everything’ and thus will be taking a more relaxed approach to replying to each and every post. 😉
“A difficult month so far (parental stuff)”
I do believe that pretty much describes every month with regards to parental stuff… and it doesn’t stop once they hit 30!
“True North have put together a collection of pubs across the city selling a special cask and keg beer”
Sigh. I was trying to rush this (due to a movie obligation with the missus), read ‘selling’ as ‘spelling’ and wasted 10 minutes trying the decipher the name of the special cask on the map!
“And if I walk to the whole 26 I’ll actually lose the calories I put on. (I wish).”
I need to develop some sort of ‘weight bank’. My wife is a bit ticked that I can drink… um… a certain number of beers a day, and never gain weight.
“This one is called, bizarrely, “Heron & Kingfisher” by Peachz”
Who ever heard of naming art alphabetically?
“Let’s start the marathon at Kapital, Pub No. 3”
I figured out that on the map right away when I saw that Art to Spot B was the bizarrely named Heron and Kingfisher. 🙂
“Does Sheffield need a European style beer bar with Budvar tank lager ?:
I think we’re about to find out.
“I’m not sure.”
Agreed. And the menu didn’t help much.
“I’m not a big fan of the Budvar”
Wait; are we talking the beer or are you confusing that with the name of the bar, Kapital?
“Bring over a barrel of Uerige and I might yet be converted.”
Bring over a barrel of any beer and I might be converted!
Cheers

Have you been to Dusseldorf ?

I spent a few weeks in Germany in February of 1981. It doesn’t stand out but then some of the time spent in Germany is a bit hazy. 😉

Kapital’s main pitch is the tank of Budvar brought over from Czechia and sold fresh. Not that great.

Agreed. Kegs and travel like that do not go together.
