FARNHAM 1 of 5. THE QUEEN’S HEAD

July 2025. Farnham

Mick aka Citra, definitely not a codger, had put together a superb day out, all the better for ensuring all five Farnham pubs were almost literally next door to each other.

When you’re approaching middle age you really don’t want to be wasting valuable drinking time admiring ancient Surrey market towns.

Unless you’re me, I guess.

But in fairness I had superb company from an assortment of faces old and new called Tony (X3), Paul, Steve, Mick, Nick and Richard, which sounds like a 60s supergroup

And if the Queen’s Head was a bit “Fullers by numbers”,

it seemed a successful formula, packed out at 3pm that Friday.

Proving the GBG does no what it’s doing, the London Pride here was only OK compared to the two Guide picks,

a cool and tasty alternative to the Hophead favoured by most.

But the star of the show was the lunch provided for Kentish Paul in double quick time.

I’m sure you can read about that on Paul’s blog. I can only confirm the chips he let me pinch were superb. He’s a nice man.

  1. Fullers by numbers isn’t a bad way to go if you are going to develop a chain. Great ones wow me, but even average ones always seem like decent places. In a time of doom and gloom they seem like a ray of hope.

      1. I’m still curious why the Park doesn’t get in the GBG. On our two stays it clearly was one of the best beer quality pubs in town.

      2. Odd, isn’t it ?

Obviously there’s a lot of GBG support for the two newish craft bars, the Hole in the Wall (did you enjoy that one ?) and the perennial Chichester Inn so there’s not a lot of spare entries around that way. I can’t imagine the quality of cask drops much in the Park though. I missed the Eastgate.
