Top pub signs No. 1. The Railway Arms, Alton.

July 2025. Alton. Hampshire.

Our big Southern day out in mid July was a 2 stage affair, 3 pubs in Alton and a nap hand   12 minutes by rail over the border in Farnham. Both unexplored territory for pub crawls, let alone curated surveys.

That train journey starts yards from the station at Alton’s best known pub,

the Railway Arms possessed of one of the great pub signs, though fans of the Quiet Woman may argue their case.

Two big mistakes, huge, here.

Firstly, I go for the guest beer from Glamorgan purely because it’s just been pulled,

but it’s a Triple fff house FFS !

And I ignore my own advice to stick pints as beer always tastes better in pint glasses.

That Glamorgan Glo Rider was pretty good, but why (oh why) didn’t I go for the Moonshine.

That empty flagon from the Triple fff brewery has served as my portable campervan toilet for 5 years now.
