July 2025. Glasgow.

A dash back from Koelschip to the Central Station, the Glasgow rain obediently holding off.

Then 20 minutes brisk walk along Argyle Street and Gallowgate to my gig; I might just make the support act.
But only if I don’t stop to take photos of Scottish legends.

That’s Mel Gibson*, preparing to take on the mighty monster of Loch Ness.
What a wonderful city this is, with a distinct character to the shops,

the lanterns,

and the landmarks.

Great clocks, too.

Oops, it’s gone 8pm, no time to eat now.

Barrowlands is a classic venue, immortalised by giants of Scottish music. And Simple Minds.

Somehow I’ve missed the start of Jasmine 4.t’s set,

including modern classic “New Shoes“, but she’s playing End of the Road next month so that’s OK.
You’ll be wanting to know about the local craft selection at Barrowlands, I’m sure,

and I can assure you that the Tennent’s (£6.50) tasted like Tennent’s. But in truth, it was a pint far too far.
Lucy Dacus, one of my very favourite artists, was very Lucy, though playing to rather larger crowds with a Number 1 album with Boy Genius behind her.

And any gig that leaves you tired and emotional with “Night Shift” is a winner.
*Hang on, wasn’t that Ted Danson ?
J**** ****t,that music is a dirge.
Aren’t you gettting on a bit for teenage bedroom angst warblers ?

Someone said that about me once. (Not me.)
But Glasgow is – and I only thought of it just now – probably my favourite UK city.
