June 2025. Cambridge.

Some pubs open on Mondays, even if not ’till 4, though there’s not much traffic (vehicle or human) on Cambridge’s Mill Road heading towards them.e

So I feel a civic duty, on the dash back to the station, to nip in for a half in the Dev.

The most central pub run by Milton, my home village brewer. The last pub I visited before retirement. And a cracking boozer.

I assumed this was a comedy clip, like “Coming Soon” or “£1.49”,

but no, it’s a micro from Kettering. Views on that pump clip coming in 1,2,3…
Anyway, they’ve got Marcus Aurelius on, the 7.5% giant.

Mrs RM would have had a pint, because she can. I had a half, as I had 8 minutes before the train (it was late), and discussed world events with this fellow.

I got more conversation out of him than I get from Mrs RM when she’s got her phone out.

Talking of phones, you really need to answer all these questions for the WiFi code ?

When I worked in Cambridge, my favourite pub would have been the Kingston I think. Once I moved to London, but still visiting regularly, it became the Live and Let Live, but since moving further afield and visits not infrequent, I think I struggle to look past the Devonshire. Can’t think of many other places that make a quite plain space comfortable and welcoming, plus the Sparta and Justinian. Though I have an upcoming visit and to be fair, all three are on the ‘Revisit’ list along with some of other usual suspects. I have to say, I would be giving that ‘Dangerous Darren’ beer the swerve based on pump clip. Looks like something that would be produced on a works away day or worse…

Ha, agree with all of that, Alex.
I’d forgot the Dev used to be the Kingston, a rather different pub to the current Dev.
