BASS LAMP, STATION BUFFET, BRIDLINGTON NEW TOWN

June 2025. Bridlington. The set up post.

Yesterday Mrs RM quizzed me triumumphantly.

“How many blog views you had this morning, eh, eh ?”. Imagine that in a Tunbridge Wells accent.

“Er, 231”.

“I’ve had 251 !”. And she had, too, having finally posted something new to her excellent travel blog One Small Bag, your primary resource for taking a 2 week holiday with a cabin bag. She has affiliate links, so presuming all those 251 turn into purchases of Fjallraven Kanken bags she could be a billionaire by Friday.

Last Friday, while your favourite influencer was putting the final touches to her Toulouse epic, I slipped out unnoticed to Sheffield Station, caught the first train to the coast, like Don McClean, and an hour later was enjoying the majesty of the Humber Bridge.

Tempting as a day in Hull was, I had unfinished business in Bridlington, whose new GBG entry I’d inexplicably failed to tick due to extended to curry with the Southworths in Filey.

What a lovely station, and about to get its Buffet reopened I read. A German themed Hull brewery, which sounds jolly exciting.

Loads of great pub memories in New Brid, Bass and John Smiths lamps,

and a £3 pirate ship ride that will take you across the North Sea to the Mikkeller bars of Denmark. Possibly.

Everyone raves about Brid Old Town now.

“I never KNEW it had an Old Town” they say.

Frankly, I barely knew it had a New Town. All craft micros, mind.

I’ll be delighting Mr Mudge with those micros shortly, but first, a Proper Pub.

Strap yourself in.

  1. I used to know Brid quite well as my Grandma lived there & have always had a soft spot for it.When we used to visit (admittedly this was in the 60’s & 70’s ) we never went to the Old Town or the “rough ” area around the harbour & as my family were non drinkers ,we never went into any pub ! We went about 5 years ago & went to all these dens of iniquity & enjoyed my old childhood playground. We particularly enjoyed the Old Town which was all new to me. A friend of ours has just moved there -I am rather envious !

  2. On that trip we also had plans to visit Bridlington, after seeing North Landing and the lighthouse, that were cancelled.
And a very good curry it was at the Monsoon.
