SUNDAY NIGHT IS QUIZ NIGHT AT SHEFFIELD’S TWO & SIX

June 2025. Sheffield.

By Sunday night I’d had two (2) days to recover from the excesses of That Derby, and suddenly realised I had 10,000 more steps to walk. Sunday night in a Sheffield pub, then.

The city centre has been improving rapidly since Mrs RM and I arrived to gentrify the place in 2020, lots of smart flats, food courts and a lot of greenery.

Walking into town past Love Hill towards the old castle site I was scanning What Pub for something new, but stopped to note a huge crowd inside the Two & Six micro.

Open a couple of years, yet to grace the GBG (but this is Sheffield), this is the place that Mrs RM famously joined Untappd 18 months ago and promptly started overrating beers.

Sheffield isn’t Manchester, and looks a bit quiet on Sunday evening, what with folk needing to get up early to walk whippets and drink keg Stones on Monday, but the Two & Six is packed at 10:00pm.

So packed, in fact, my only seating is the high stool. I don’t complain.

And then I hear the reason why;

Right, Question five“. Something about British Rail stations, I think. Or Napalm Death.

Is it Quiz Night ?” I ask the landlady. Why would I ask that ?

High table aside, this is marvellous. Chin Chin’s Neon Skyline, from a tighter beer range than anything I saw in Derby, a crisp NBSS 4,

and folk talking to mates.

“Someone is sending me a recipe for egg on toast in an air fryer. Egg on toast !”.

Just sometimes, micropubs make perfect sense.

  1. 48 more unique beers to go on Untappd, before I reach the magic 1,000. That doesn’t include the hundreds of beers I’ve enjoyed, over the past 50 years, before I started “ticking” them on the app.

    1. Paul,
      What’s the prize for reaching the magic 1,000 ?
      Maybe a pint of some concoction you’ve never heard of ?
