MAY ’25 STOCKTAKE + JUNE PREVIEW

A quick summary of a low-key month where the highlight was another country tick pin as we ventured into the Caucasus.

A dozen bars in Georgia, and thirty-eight different pubs (a very different beast) spread across the usual North-West to South-East route.

A culinary month, from the artisanal salads of Reddish,

to the robust dumplings of Tbilisi,

to the last pickings of the cheese and biscuits back “home” in The Sun,

which again showed why it’s still my favourite pub.

Hate to say it, but London showed why it’s the greatest city in the world (after Citeh) on a gorgeous night by Putney Bridge,

where the Eight Bells made its pitch for Pub of the Month with that wonderful combination of Old Boys dancing to punk, backstreet London pub splendour, and unexpectedly good cask.

Stockport could also pitch for Greatest City in the World, of course, and the local CAMRA branch has found a cracker in Heaton Mersey’s Crown,

where the Unicorn was as good as it’s been in many a year.

But there’s only one choice as Beer of the Month

Who knew 1664 could travel so well ? That was Derby last Friday, a report I have still to bring you.

In June, I shall mostly be accompanying Mrs RM on 4 hour trips between Sheffield, Waterbeach and Tunbridge Wells.
