ONLY ONE REMEDY FOR THE CUP FINAL BLUES

May 2025. Sheffield.

West Yorkshire complete, I scrambled down the hill to Keighley station, tempted to head to the (actual) Boltmakers Arms to watch the Cup Final.

But I can’t watch City (or England) games on telly, too nervous, and managed to get back to Sheffield via Leeds without hearing anyone mention a game that once brought the nation to a halt on a Saturday in May.

So I headed to the Old Shoe, waiting for it all to end, and finding Sheffield’s classiest bar serving a better pint of cask Sonoma than in the Track tap.

But, oh dear, then I noticed the score by accident. City a goal down to Palace, and thought I’d better stay put with something strong.

Estonia’s Pohjala are everywhere, aren’t they ?

Well, an imperial stout expertly decanted into a pint glass is a cure for all cup final losses,

but just to make sure I had a Two by Two in the S6 Beer House waiting for the Sang Lung, the consolatory takeaway.

Congratulations, Palace.
