X98 REDEMPTION ON THE ROAD BACK FROM THE BOSUN’S BREWERY TAP

May 2025. Wetherby.

Well, I wasn’t expecting that level of vitriol in the comments after my usual scrupulously honest report on the Leeds-Wetherby bus. But read on, Anonymous…

I trudged on after Wetherby’s eponymous brewery tap through light industrial estates, to Bosun’s, the actual Guide newbie.

It’s a quarter to four, the Golden Hour awaits, and they’re playing “Don’t You Want Me“. It’s always bugged me that the Human League didn’t add a question mark.

Bosun’s has made a decent job of making an industrial unit look welcoming, though the seating will divide opinion.

The young barman is cheery and chatty, particularly on the subject of Wetherby pubs, and pours a gorgeously cool and chewy pint of Castaway (NBSS 4), which proves something. Or other.

I leave as the after-work lads arrive, and “Boys Don’t Cry” starts, mentally preparing for the 5pm bump bus back to Leeds.

Wetherby looks grand,

and I’d have popped in the only recent GBG entry Mews aka Muse aka Moose (perhaps) if I hadn’t feared needing a wee somewhere on the A58.

Some lovely cafes around the market place, and an example of modern shop signs detracting from architecture.

And then then the X98, a slight revised route which wasn’t bad at all, hardly a bump in sight,

though with delays I managed to arrive back at the station just in time to miss the fast train to Sheffield.

Oh well, I guess there’s a pub in Leeds to kill half an hour.

      1. We did a bit on our extended stay in Hunston. We used the National Express service at both ends of our trip to go on the LHR\Bath route. Their service was excellent for someone with a wheelchair. I regret not using them sooner.

We used the local bus service in Hunston for shorter trips in the area. We found the service excellent except when road works changed routes. The changes were not always announced well…Led to some longer sits. I’d say we had very good luck with the busses.

We also had good luck with Southern and Southeastern train services. Staff went out of their way to assist us.
