May 2025. Chesterton. Cambridge.
I just met someone in the Sun who thought Milton beers a bit “Meh” While of course I may be a tad bias, what with their brewery in Waterbeach (see also : Pastore), I just don’t get that.
25 years, some failed attempts to get a foothold in North London, and now four Cambridge pubs with consistent beer. If I believed in such a concept, I’d even say “good” beer.

The Haymakers in Chesterton is, I guess, the Milton flagship with its quality pizza trade for postgrads and rowers.

I used to work next door, as a shy accounts clerk at Hallens Autos, so I’ll always have a soft spot for the Haymakers.

I even spotted founder Richard Naisby on our Monday lunchtime visit,

when we took a friend we’d met at Dad’s care home for pizza.
Not in the snug our lads loved, perhaps their favourite pub spot in Cambridge,

though I did have the calzone that James (26 yesterday) rated his favourite pub grub along with the Wrestlers.

Sadly, no 7.5% Marcus Aurelius for Mrs RM, but the 6% Prometheus was almost as good.
And I guarantee you no-one, no-one, would stop Mrs RM having a pint.
Good pub. Though a little parochial, in my opinion, on my only visit. But that was more to do with the time of day than a general attitude, I reckon.
Beer was good. Though just a modest half of Justinian, it was decidedly NBSS 4.

You know, I think parochial is a decent word. I know what you mean, even if it’s not my own take.
I don’t know why Milton beers aren’t better regarded.
