THE SWEET GREEN TAVERN

April 2025.  Bolton.

A big, hard, Paddington bear stare for Blackpool Jane,

before we moved on to her special Bolton pick, seemingly in the middle of nowhere across from the station.

I remember the Sweet Green Tavern as a Tetley stronghold 25 years ago, but even with a couple of £4 Bank Top beers it feels well outside the GBG.

But what a surprise, a bit like that Midland in Stockport, with great welcome and multi roomed options.

A bit blokey, but Mrs RM and Jane felt comfortable,

helped by classic bench seating and a free jukebox packed with Manc classics like, er, Northside.

Cool, crisp, Flat Cap (3.5),

the sort of seating you could lose an evening in,

and lovely locals bemused by our accents.

I’d have stayed all night eating crisps, but Jane had Fred Dibnah in mind.
