A BURNING SKY IN WALKLEY BEER CO.

January 2025. Walkley. Sheffield.

Bonus mini post, highlighting just how good Sheffield is outside the GBG.

2 minutes walk up Walkley’s main drag on a rare Friday night at home.

The eponymous off -licence with a communal drinking table was my first real introduction to Walkley back in James’s fresher year at Sheffield Uni.

A chatty young student talked up the suburb as a place our lad might move to in his second year.

Actually it’s an area just outside the main student digs, with huge views over the Rivelin Valley, and sold itself to us immediately on our house hunting trip to the Blake and Blind Monkey in that COVID Summer of 2020.

Since then, the Walkley Beer Co hasn’t touched the Guide and we’ve barely been in six monthly

Which is slightly mad, because the beer (Two by Two, Polly’s and a stunning Saison from Burning Sky) is always high quality.

OK, it’s not as cosy as the Monkey or the Cat or the Blake,

but it’s communal and a great advert for good beer.

And, once upon a long time ago, that’s what CAMRA was all about.
