KEEPING THOSE CHRISTMAS DAY TRADITIONS ALIVE

I know you know I don’t do Christmas, or tradition, with one notable exception.

But with an enforced roast dinner being cooked by Mrs RM at my parents house today I was charged with “getting the **** out of the way while I cook the veg”.

Matthew and James were ready on 14.03 seconds, oddly the same number as the ABV for that bourbon stout in the Crow, and even posed outside the Sun.

Helen was open the ultra traditional 12-2 today, with one bar set for a family dinner after last orders.

So the public was packed, and James headed for the covered outside area. Yes, 12 degrees today. Anyone would think we had global warming.

You get a range of drinks orders at Christmas,

but to make things easy for a hardworking landlady we ordered 3 Guinnesses.

“When it’s gone, it’s gone” says Helen, confirming those always reliable stories of a UK shortage of the black stuff. Would similar rumours work for Donnington BB ?

£5.20 your pint, well presented but unbearably dull. Matt prefers London Black, and I think he’s typical of the market.

Anyway, family time, that’s what it’s all about, apparently.

And while Mum got ready for Christmas lunch with Dad in the care home, 3 lads tucked into Mrs RM’s roast.

Almost as good as her mother’s two days before.
