July 2024. Blyth. Northumberland.
Our Northumbrian explorer came to an end in Blyth, which will always hold a place dear to my heart as the town that pubs re-opened at 9am on 4th July 2020, after a nervous night spent in a dogging car park.

Who’d have guessed they’d be closed 4 months later ?
Back in 2020 my first pint was Doom Bar in the Blyth Spoons, now we had a micropub to enjoy. Life comes at you fast.
Blyth looked little changed, a home of bargain booze,

and beautiful brown.

The Lounge, tucked away in the back lanes, looks oddly plain,

but inside is a thing of wonder, and more evidence that the North-east do micros best.
Metalhead Stout a rich, gorgeous NBSS 4, under £4.
A Saturday afternoon amongst the ’80s vinyl sleeves,

Thunder and Rush and WASP covers, and these from the NWOBHM (I think).

Folk my age having a laugh about Maggie May and rustling sounds; a classic mature pub atmosphere, possibly fuelled by the UK’s biggest collection of Lilley’s ciders.

“They’re NOT ciders !” screams a CAMRA.
Great pub, and just post Northumbria along the A69 to complete the county.

This weekend ?
Back in the day, The Blyth and Tyne sold a decent pint of cask – often Broughton Greenmantle.
