July 2024. Cambridge.
A half-hearted attempt to visit all the Cambridge pubs for you while I’m staying with the parents falls at the first hurdle as I leave the station and head towards the old favourites.

I welcomed back the Kingston Arms from an il-fated gastro spell last year,

and was later delighted to see the return of Bass to Cambridge for the first time since (checks spreadsheet) 1777.

Mark, former guvnor of the esteemed Red Lion in Histon, has certainly put his mark on the Kingston with Bass signage, breweriana and BBBs

and was having an entertaining chat with a couple from Histon about Brummie breweries (and Grimsby Town, but we’ll gloss over that) when I plonked down.

While the Bass is good though could do with a bit more trade (and a red triangle on the glass),

the pub itself is hard to beat. And a 20 minute chat with that couple of escapees from Walsall about illuminations, Ansells and prejudice was a reminder that we don’t go to pubs to score beers.
We go to see life.
It was rammed when I visited in April, sign of a good pub.

Good to hear, Mick.
In fairness it’s one of fewer pubs these days that open all days, and has been ticking over mid-afternoon.
