MASTERS OF CASK

June 2024. Sheffield.

How was your election evening ?

This was the scene in Sheffield at 10pm;

Over-analyse that !

A week ago the election coverage was in overdrive in my last pub of the month, as I left the Cow and Calf suddenly incredibly hungry.

By a stroke of luck, a Sheffield dining pub I’d never been in.

ALL THE PUBS IN SHEFFIELD ON FOOT No. 388 – THE EIGHT FOOT WAY

Looks awful with its “Generous George” branding, but you can trust a Marston’s badge, no ?

Masters of Cask” ? Sounds like a disappointing Metallica album.

Quite busy with families and toddlers, so I took a high table within view of the Politics Show,

realised I’d need to go to the bar to order and view the artisanal range of beers,

and remembered the words of that great Pub Man. “One beer is plenty, often more than enough“.

Let’s be fair, it’s nicely presented in a glass outlining Wainwright’s Lake District provenance, and a half-price spicy burger was much, much better than expected (great chips),

but, as that great Pub Man also said, “Lacings never lie“.

What IS that stuff floating on top ?

  1. They probably had Autovac.

i presume you checked this on all your gbg pubs?

And if you didn’t…do they need reticking as your half may only have been two-thirds beer? 🤔

  2. I’ve not been in one of their Generous George pubs. I know of only one pub with a Masters of Cask sign and that’s the Woolpack at Weston three miles from me. Coincidently Will was asking about the Weston pubs only two days ago. A Wainwright was drinking well from one of those fancy glasses in Salford only last Sunday, after I’d seen that it was cask not “fizz”. Maybe I should take one tomorrow morning to make sure I don’t get lost.

  3. My election day was spent at the polling station in Bressay being a polling clerk. 6.30 am to 10.30 pm, followed by a couple of pints at the Maryfield Hotel. To my astonishment, Mrs B was on the Guinness.

  4. Over-analyze that ?

    Ok.

Why am I not surprised that two NHS stalwarts were watching Channel 4’s election coverage ? 🤣
