June 2024. Grenoside.
In 1998 I stopped at the Cow & Calf on the way to see Cambridge United nick a famous 1-0 win at Hillsborough, and introduced old schoolmate Sean to the joys of Sam Smiths. (Pure Lager, but never mind).
20 odd years later, the Cow & Calf failed to supply Sir Humphrey’s favourite pudding, and was promptly closed.
Last month, it finally reopened, and I walked the 3 miles from home to celebrate.

A gorgeous walk, just beyond the edge of north Sheffield where village life begins.

If the tram reached this far out, I could live here. But it doesn’t.

But it does have a classic pub again,

even if the Cow & Calf is a converted farm house.

Blimey. It’s a stunner.

Such a shame that due to Humphrey’s rules I can’t bring you any interior pics, but I can tell you I had the best hour of the month here chatting to the locals,

and that the OBB was a solid 4.
I really shouldn’t have had 3 pints in an hour, mind…
Sometimes they just drink very easy. Very often when you are enjoying the people.

I’ll second that Dave.
The Cow and Calf looks as good as Birmingham’s Hen and Chickens.

I had a terrible hangover that evening. Should have had a Chinese takeaway, would have sorted it.

Or should have had only one bottle of the Jamaican tonic wine ? !
