June 2024. Huddersfield.
Half an hour ’till the train back to Sheffield, and a paltry two station stops on the Huddopoly board. Still, all the excuse I’ll need for a return visit.

Anywhere that labels itself “magnificent” deserves your time.

The keg Albert apparently has a magnificent interior,

but it was the County that provided the magnificently unexpected finale.

I had no recollection of this place at all, and if I hadn’t checked my master spreadsheet 3 times I might have believed I’d never actually been, possibly putting my GBG completion under scrutiny.
But it’s changed from the “Hotel” to the “Beerhouse”, and strikes a lovely balance between refined and earthy,

rather like the soundtrack.
Classy Vocation line-up,

but why (oh why) did I have to pick the 10.5% Imperial Stout* ?

Well, it’s what Blackpool Jane would do.
And why (oh why) did I have to match it with the (still warm) cookie dough, chocolate chip and Oreo bar ?

Well, it’s what Mrs RM would do, obviously.
The Vocation was a 4, the cookie a 4.5,

the headwear a 5.

Not the ultimate Huddersfield day out, but perhaps the best finishing pub of the year.

*Yes, just a third, but if Mrs RM had been there I’ve no doubt we’d have shared a pint.
I’d post a comment but I just finished reading BRAPA’s year end review and I’m exhausted.

Yes, my liver aches just thinking about Simon’s June. I did over a hundred new GBG pubs 2 years ago down that way and was exhausted at the end.
