THE WASHINGTON

May 2024. Sheffield.

And just like that, 2 pints becomes 3 as I leave Duncan outside Triple Point and return to a Sheffield absolutely bouncing on a Friday night.

The only thing the city really lacks is a consistent small venue music scene to match Manchester and Leeds, but you’ll always get some enthusiastic youngsters in the Washington.

And a great soundtrack between bands.

Another unsung cask pub too, perhaps not “exciting” enough to trouble the GBG and Untappd crowd,

but I reckoned the Moonshine, perhaps the Doom Bar of Sheffield, was better than in the Kelham Island Tavern, a cool and creamy 3.5.

As always, I’d turned up in the half hour gap between bands, so I’d nearly finished it before the music started again. Whoever it was, they were enthusiastic.

Someone nearly nicked my pint (below) while I was in the Gents.

How is it even possible to mistake two Abbeydale pale beers ?
