May 2024. Hereford.

Day 2 of the May Marches march. We needed a place to park up for the night in Hereford, a place with toilet facilities for Mrs RM;

what could be more appropriate that the overflow car park for the town Waterworks Museum, tantalisingly only open on Tuesdays.

Just as tantalisingly, I could almost see the Vaga Tavern across that river, but local CAMRA’s campaign to get a footbridge across the Wye had clearly stalled.

Still, only 20 minutes along the river bank and across the bridge into Hunderton, where the Vaga Tavern stands as the archetypal family brewer-owned community pub.

The two glasses over the dormant pubs seem a bit superfluous in this case,

and here’s my chance for a rare Wye Valley Bitter, a cool and chewy NBSS 3, though it’s no Barrels.

The jovial landlord comes over to play a leg of darts yards from my table. Should I move ?

Nope, but I could have taken a pic of a dart in flight.

Pool, darts, skittles, but sadly for the Real Mark that skittles room is in darkness so I can’t add to his treasured collection of games room.

In honesty, if the Bitter had been a tad crisper I’d have stayed for a second pint as Mrs RM was snoozing in the campervan and didn’t want me back, but instead I pressed on into the centre without her.
