January 2024. Royal Tunbridge Wells.
On the Monday evening Mrs RM joined me on a short tour of Tunbridge Wells in search of murky keg, brown beer and a kebab of unknow origin.

In truth, the first Monday after New Year is never going to be busy; even the Spoons was quiet, but I was glad if surprised to see new brewery tap Allkin open at all.

Only half a dozen in at 6pm, but I’d seen a mum with a push chair in earlier so clearly it’s got wider potential than your usual geeky craft bar.

On my visit last September they were still getting the brewery back up, so now they had we tried halves of Flip the Bird (illegal in this country) and Sabbatical, and a Sonoma on cask.
The murky Sabbatical was sensational, the Track on cask a bit so-so.

It’s like a mini-version of Sheffield’s Old Shoe, and I reckon you could have a good evening here drinking their own keg,

but it is to my eternal shame I didn’t even notice they’d brought a barrel of Pastore’s 7.6% Sour Smoothie all the way down from Waterbeach for us.

Pastore on can and bottle is increasingly common in the craftier bars, but it’s rare to see their stronger sours on keg. I regretted not ordering for at least 5 minutes.
“Pastore on can and bottle is increasingly common in the craftier bars, but it’s rare to se their stronger sours on keg.”
Would there be any discernible difference ?

The writer of that statement is used to dealing with the complexities of Doom Bar and Bass. The sours in keg versus can is a trivial taste difference to discern for him.

I might be missing “the complexities of Doom Bar” but can easily tell a cask that’s been on two days from one that’s been on two weeks.

Well, if it’s keg, then someone can conceivably say it’s Key Keg, and it can get in the GBG, I guess ;-0

Ah, but a few yeast cells in a can or bottle just might get it in the GBG.

I’d vote against that at the AGM.

I didn’t know we’re due a motion on that in Dundee.
I shall listen to the arguments for and against and then vote as you suggest.

Do I need to crash course in chemistry before the AGM? Good find though most on the strong side as is increasingly the way.
