FROM THE LAND OF GREEN GINGER TO THE HEART OF INDUSTRIAL HULL

December 2023. Hull.

Right, let’s tick Hull. 15 minutes from the George to the Old Bull & Bush, both proof you get a higher quality of pub name on the Humber.

That 15 minute walk gets its own blog outing; it deserves it and my brain can’t cope with more than ten pictures on a post.

You get to appreciate the majesty of Hull’s Old Town better on foot; the Guildhall,

the phone boxes (all now converted into micro pubs),

the ancient shops of Grimston Street,

the Mansfield Brewery livery,

the pub that has changed colour since its appearance on What Pub,

and then the decaying industry of Caroline Street.

But it’s nearing 5pm, there’s a few folk leaving the panel beaters and suspended ceilings workshops and whatever G.F. Smith manufacture.

Some folk would take a taxi out here, I guess. Where’s the peril in that ?

And then, it emerges in the night, my target pub.

With red light as well. I can hardly wait.

      1. The Lamp Tavern in Birmingham still is (and it was freezing cold as well as the location being unprepossessing), but it’s an absolute gem of a pub once you get inside.
