LACY

Yes, I’m going to be nicking all of Olivia Rodrigo’s song titles for these blog posts because she deserves the honour.

November 2023. Oatlands. Harrogate.

Ooh, a bit dark as I left the warmth of the Harrogate Tap and headed for my actual tick in Oatlands.

By now I only had 32 minutes to walk the 1.3 miles to the Oatlands, get a pint, and then make the right platform at Hornbeam Park (hoping the rail barrier wouldn’t leave me stranded on the wrong side as at Sturry this year).

It’s quite hard walking briskly through a park in the dark, avoiding dog mess and gentlefolk,

but I did the 1.3 miles to the Oatlands in 18 minutes; I’ll feel old when it takes 20.

A solid tick, a symphony in beige.

with a £3.20 pint of Leeds Pale in a pleasant “club” with no apparent entry requirements, not even CAMRA Gold cards.

Young and old, ties and Hi-Vis, Fosters and fruit cider dominated.

He was very connected to Amy Winehouse” the only line I remember.

In truth, the Pale was well conditioned but a bit dull. If I’d remembered the Roosters brewery was round the corner I’d have had that. But those lacings, mmm.

“Lacy, oh, Lacy, I despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you
Yeah, I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you”

  1. I was saying to Simon on the BRAPA blog, that Oatlands looks in good nick. Its over 20 years since I was a member. Back in those days I think the only real ale on was Daleside Blonde.

They never were that bothered about seeing id badges.

    1. Totally agree with what you say about Leeds Pale, its bland. I haven’t tried Tetley’s for years.

I was however drinking in my club last night (Ilkley Bowling Club) where the Goose Eye Chinook was in excellent form. If you are in Ilkley then I would say the IBC would be a good pre-emptive tick and its less than 50m away from BarTat.
