October 2023. Sarajevo. Bosnia & Herzegovina.
In truth there’s a limited number of different things you can do when exploring a new city. Aimless walking, rating churches, burnt out Olympic sites, arguments over Untappd ratings and huge lunches are obviously a key part of the visit, but it would be unusual if a pub didn’t pop up at some point.
And so, straight from the return leg of Tram No. 3, we headed south of the grand bazaar to Sarajevo’s brewery.

I’d have said that Sarajevska pivara dominates the back streets leading up to the cable car,

but in truth the streets belong to the cats. I think Mrs RM spotted half a dozen in this photo.

The near total absence of dog mess is a huge plus in Bosnia.
Quite an attractive brewery in the Robinson’s style, though with rather fewer pubs than Stockport’s finest.

Their tap (apparently) only opened this century,

but it’s a marvellous looking place.

Yes, they’d rolled out the red carpet for Mrs RM.
The upstairs area, and most of the downstairs restaurant, was off-limits, and though we’d only just eaten I suspect we’d have dined again but the food here was by far the most expensive we saw all trip.

So we sat at the table closest to the bar to observe authentic Bosnian bar action. There’s Mrs RM in the pink jumper, about to ask for the WiFi code.

Sadly, with efficient but not effusive table service there was no bar action,

and in all honesty the pint (whatever) of the mixed light/dark beer was thin, though Mrs RM’s unpasteurised pint was a joy.

Probably an essential visit for tourists, in the same way you need to see the Cittie of Yorke in London or the Brew Dog in Manchester or something.
I think we emerged to catch the Latin bridge at just the right moment.

And you all know what the Latin Bridge is famous for, don’t you ?
Yes, we’ve lost it with dogs here I think. There’s a pub that I like, but struggling a bit. It sets itself as both a food pub and “dog friendly”. Sadly, the stench of the critters is so overpowering, that never mind it’s putting you off taking a meal, you struggle to keep down your last one.
Glad to hear that some countries haven’t gone so soft-in-the-head, Martin.
