Our Gang of Four had arrived in Brigg at 11.07 and within 50 minutes had a third pub under our belts, with the only return journey to Sheffield only an hour and a half away.
Mrs RM charged off over the river to the “smart pub”,
I joined Will and “Jeff” for a genuine preemptive possibility.
Not that Old Mill are anyone’s favourite brewery, but they are consistent, and the Lord Nelson certainly produced one of the day’s best beers in Elixir (3.5).

Nice enough hotel bar, though apparently service had been slightly “disinterested” before I turned up.
Rare backgammon board,
nice windows showing Horatio,
proper branded glasses for halves.
In fact, I might have stayed for a second, but Mrs RM was taunting me with pics from the next pub, and 10 seconds later we were on the charge.

Agree. I had Bass in a Landlord glass and it wasn’t the same.
