September 2023. Scarborough.
I meant to send my mum a postcard from Scarborough but a) I forgot, b) a first class stamp is £1.25, c) couldn’t find a Post Office anywhere.

I did see loads of hotels though, including the Grand. rated “Passable” on Booking.com (i.e. dreadful), the Adelphi of the North.

But take the steep stairs down from the Grand to the sea and revel in the graffiti.

Some people spend two weeks on a beach. My Personal Best is 14 minutes. What do you do on a beach ?

I lay down in the sun (it really was, it shines on the righteous), got sand in my pockets, then thought I’d better rediscover the promenade.

I love the way they get a fish to swallow your plastic bottles, without irony.

Oooh, amusement arcade. We know what’s in there;

Sadly, Zoltar may speak but he didn’t know the entries in the about-to-be-released GBG24.

I saw a man with a huge, HUGE, ice cream, and tracked its source to this place

Those numbers are prices, by the way. Note the much derided East Riding dispense pumps in the background. That “mega” cone in the foreground is the size of your head.

I settled on a single lemon twist (NLTSS 4), enjoyed at the fishing nets,

and headed back to the station via the Old Town.

Literally everyone on the street was in their 60s, the children turned to stone.

No chips, and not even a quick pint in the Leeds Arms.

But I’ll be back.
No point putting a first class stamp on a postcard. They are only sent second class.
