July 2023. Liverpool.
The nice folk at Liverpool’s Z Hotel let us leave our bags in the lobby before our early evening departure from Lime Street, having let Mrs RM conduct a full afternoon’s meetings from the corner table. You need to get your money’s worth from your £40.50 room.

You’ll be assuming that we stopped off a last Liverpool classic pub before the train, or even a Craft Union,

(I’m guessing the thing sticking out is a micro).

But, after a quick look around the gorgeous Bluecoat Gallery,

and a tourist tick for Mrs RM at the Cilla statue (no Bass in the White Star),

it was Pomegranate and Orange Blossom in Lebanese diner Bakchich.

4:30pm, and pedestrianised Bold Street was heaving with early diners. One of the great foodie streets in the UK, and I’ve been to Carluke’s gastronomic quarter.
Lamb tagine and veg mezze,

both gorgeous, but more importantly instagrammable for Mrs RM.

We were so close to the Philharmonic, but Mrs RM wouldn’t have gone in the Gents, anyway. Next time.
I’m not sure we saw that beautiful looking street on our whirlwind trip through Liverpool. Quite pretty in my opinion. Wish we had seen it.

Dale Street is the main pub street that goes from the station through the commercial district to the docks.
Bold Street is where the independent places start on the way to student land, quite a contrast to the modern shopping centre. I thought Liverpool looked as good (and busy) as I’ve seen it. Matt is a big fan.

Does Matt have an opinion on the modern shopping centre?

I think he’d prefer it to the out-of-town retail parks (Trafford Park, Meadowhall etc). It’s actually not bad.
