July 2023. Hillsborough. Sheffield.
Music lovers descend on Hillsborough today for the annual celebration of mediocrity (sponsored by Brew Dog) that is Tramlines. Mrs RM just asked “Is Sophie Ellis-Bextor on again ?“. (No).
Once they’re behind the fences at Hillsborough Park they won’t be allowed out, so no chance to explore the thriving ale and cake scene in S6, so best fill your boots before you go in, eh !

Walking back from the Wisewood, I advised Axholme Rob that newly-opened Beer House S6 was a good pre-emptive bet, and unlike my brother-in-law last month Rob didn’t ask for a taster, though he did have a half because he was on a manic ticking day, whatever that is.
I can’t remember what I had, and the glasses don’t help,

but just for once a pub’s Facebook is useful as it reminds me what I had.

A pint of each, actually. The Two By Two was particularly stunning; cool and rich (NBSS 4). Ignore the doom mongers telling you cask is dying, You can have half a dozen quality pints within 10 minutes walk of my front door, which is why I’m charging £133 a night on Air B & B to stay in our spare room these days.
Rob has all the attributes to be a Pro ticker. Focus, bladder, speed. The tram arrived at the stop right outside the pub, Rob bolted outside the door and leapt on the Yellow line headed somewhere, anywhere.
I looked at two empty glasses.

Common sense would have been to call it a day then, but common sense often leaves at this point, and the CAMRA beer scoring system actually demands you to stay for another when you encounter an NBSS 4 in the wild.
I got chatting to the barman about the Two By Two, but switched to a Vibrant Forest PUPA, which will delight my many fans of murky, hazy, shed beer. It was gorgeous (3.5), paired with Longhorn Beef (Pipers).

A mum with a double buggy came in and asked “What gins have you got ?“, a bloke in the window seat was on the Madri, and downstairs there’s pool and darts. The S6 Beer House isn’t just for beer folk, and that’s how it should be.
A half is not a tick. At best it is a \

So you’re saying that BRAPA is The Only True Way ?
How many ticks have you got, for interest .

Sorry, did I open up a debate 🙂
A pint should suffice I suppose, but three pints to make sure!
I just like visiting good pubs, and also reading bigly about them. Obviously therefore a very high correlation with this blog! But not r=1
Blogs about drinking eight different beers at home – not bothered. A few of those around.
My fear with following A Good Book would truthfully be missing good pubs that for some reason don’t pass the “test”.

Ha ! That’s not a “debate”, that’s war !
You’re absolutely right, of course, only a pint or more and half an hour in a pub will give you a feel for the pub, which is why I admire the BRAPA approach. I probably did the GBG 50/50 between halves and pints, these days it’s virtually all pints.
