June 2023. Kilburn.
Just a short post to remind myself how little I really know about London.

With five (5) GBG ticks in the bag by 3 it was already a good day, but now the new Guide entries became a little more tucked away and in need of a helping hand from the Overground Line at Brondesbury.
Which meant a walk from the Carlton through the heart of Kilburn and its shiny new flats (presumably the fate the Carlton narrowly avoided),

and then up a mile of mini supermarkets, greengrocers, and a run of largely keg pubs you assume are all Irish boozers but can’t be sure.

I just took a look at the Facebook page of a random pub on that route, the Earl of Derby;

Just as well I wasn’t distracted by bonus pubs on the A5, really, and could just admire the stonework above “Classy Chicks” and “Creams”.

And the (occasional) street art.

Nothing much beats aimless wandering in London, whatever the quality of pubs.

There’s always an impressive church to tick.

For live music, it’s good to see Harlesden’s Mean Fiddler given a sort of rebirth in Kilburn.

I couldn’t actually remember the last time I’d been on the High Road, but then I saw it;

The Colin Campbell, a fleeting Guide entry I blogged about on Christmas Eve 2018, to the delight of my hardcore followers in need of Xmas reading.

In truth the Black Lion looked the most likely place to reclaim a Kilburn entry in the Guide, with its threat promise of microbrews and a Desi inspired menu. We shall see.

Back in 2018 I noted that Kilburn had more GBG entries than Hampstead, which said more about posh North London than anything. I knew that wouldn’t last.
Talking of Hampstead…
Off topic but today was the first time in fifty-two years that a publican asked me if my pint had evaporated.

Any excuse for a short pint.

No, a full pint of Timothy Taylors Best Mild but so good that it only lasted a few minutes and then I needed another one.
That’s in a pub where there’s a bucket of water through the line after each cask and the line is cleaned after each third cask. And “two or three beers is plenty” there.
