Back in Sheffield after 3 days in Waterbeach (1 Chung Hwa, 1 Beach Kebab) for a £35 one day festival in Kelham Island’s newish venues. James joined me; he reckons Sheffield is catching up with Leeds and Manchester in the new music stakes, but I’ll let Chris Dyson be the judge of that.

Get Together had me running across the six venues,

pausing only to admire the art installations,

and wonder how a festival can put on a quality cask for £3.60 in 2023. Cask from Three Legs in Rye, at that.

We’re getting blasé these days about what counts as a quality line-up. I looked at that list, though “Purity, Lightbulb, Steady Rolling Man….dull”, and headed to the Fat Cat for a Pale Rider (3.5).

Back at the Peddler Market I undid the good work of the previous three nights and went artisanal pizza.

Good as the acts were, most of the highlights of the day weren’t musical. This sign below is clearly a reference to the reclaiming of Bass by Sheffield at Fagan’s.

Lots of politics in the messages,

with Sheffield’s own Drastic//Automatic the best of the punks.

Being free to come and go all day I even got to catch up with Stoke-on-Trent 6 Towns Mart at the Kelham and Alder; what a lovely chap he is.

And as CMAT stole the show,

the news came in from Nottingham that City had won the League, making Sunday’s game with Chelsea a celebration I could enjoy from the Blind Monkey while Matt got to see the presentation.
