MAY ’23 STOCKTAKE + JUNE PREVIEW

Your statutory concise May highlights package, rather distorted by an early month trip to the Baltic I’m still blogging about and the fact I’m 3 weeks behind on the blog. Sorry.

Mrs RM’s new phone camera is definitely the star of the month,

and those Balkan buns the culinary highlight.

Closer to home, there’s a bit more UK travel than of late,

though you can see there’s some catching up to do out west.

Only 50 pub visits, and only 25 new GBG ticks, so I may as well give up on completing the Beer Guide this year.

But 2023 has been less about ticking and more about revisiting some old favourites, like the Corn Dolly, my Pub of the Month, where we finally met up with the Southworth clan after four years.

I really rated the beer in Manchester’s Crown & Kettle, too, and this pint of Fleek from Wylam was stunning.

Manchester looked wonderful as ever on a couple of visits. I really must find out what the Sam Smiths Stout in a plastic glass actually tastes like.

But in June, I shall mostly be doing Devon in the campervan. Please don’t rain.

  1. A.LeCoq on the umbrella must be the brewery in Tartu that in the early 1900s did an Imperial Extra Double Stout that Harveys of Lewes have been doing a very nice bottled version of.
