PARENTAL ADVISORY : CONTAINS YORKSHIRE
Quite hard judging whether to bring you short reports on some of these never-ending rural Yorkshire dining pubs, but I didn’t want you to miss out on this filth.
This is what greets American visitors on their day trips from Whitby to the Blacksmith’s Arms in Lastingham, on the edge of the North Yorks Moors.
If nearby Cropton sounds familiar, Mrs RM and I did a brewery tour overnighter there 3 years ago. We attempted to walk to Lastingham that night but the Eton Mess at the New Inn got the better of us.
Fairly idyllic, heh ?

A slightly incongruous TV screen seems at odds with the rest of the bar.
It’s an odd mixture of professionalism, fine dining and old-school vlllage pub.
Too many beers, of course.
I had to escape the tiny bar, overrun by indecisive families. Wicker seating outside but at least the views to the hills were decent.
The Theakston screamed “2.5”. I left it for 5 minutes to walk the bounds, and when I came back it had magicked into a 3. That happens sometimes.
So, no plants were harmed in the production of this post, and on my return to the bar I had the opportunity to explore the Gents further.
The mind boggles as to what was contained in the Ladies.

I’m I overlooking something here or is the name of this pub not mentioned in the post? Make no mistake, I have no plans to visit this one, but sometimes I do and including pub names in posts would make them more “searchable”.

I’ve not been in that pub but was nearby on my honeymoon.
I remember Mrs TSM commenting that I had had plenty of the Cropton beer but surely a marriage is something to be celebrated.

Yes, that’s the Yeoman’s Arms near Stafford.
Coincidently when first in Stafford, 1973 to ’74 and ’76 to ’79, my nearest pub was the Staffordshire Yeoman.

Oh, I have. Thorold Arms in Harmston springs to mind.
They’re in the part of my site only visible to Patronised subscribers.

Agree, it’s a good range, and if this was a pub inside York City walls it might just get enough custom. But more and more dining pubs lead on lager and wine.
That said, Theakston was quite good here.
