I’ve only time for a quick post while I explore Luton’s competing attractions while waiting for a flight from Katowice that’s 3 hours late (thanks Ryanair). Here’s the Hatters Highlight.

In contrast to Dunstable Guided Busway, Axbridge is an authentic bit of honeypot Somerset, home to King John’s Hunting Lodge and the chintzy Lamb.

A contender for best Somerset village starting with “A” at least, and relief from the relentless cheeriness of Cheddar.

The Crown isn’t what you expect. A historic building with modern refurb that acts as the community pub.
Youngsters have taken command of the juke box and choose a succession of recent R’n’B classics.
Two classic beers, neither of which I recognise (how am I suppose to score them ?). A bit meh, I note.

Still £4 a pint though, and £13.50 for fish and chips, on the high side unless you’ve just paid a tenner for mouldy cheese in Cheddar.
Quite photogenic, too.

Anyway, must dash. I have a late lunch to devour.

“and relief from the relentless cheeriness of Cheddar.”
Agreed. That would definitely ‘cheese’ some people off. (I’ll get my coat) 🙂
And the shot of the cathedral below that looks like a poor man’s version of Sacre Coeur.
“(how am I suppose to score them ?)”
By taste? 🙂
“Still £4 a pint though, and £13.50 for fish and chips,”
You can tell you’re in the touristy bits when you see that.
“I have a late lunch to devour.”
If you’re not careful it could be the other way round. 😉
Cheers

Axbridge is one that I liked a lot and almost submitted to Mudgie’s contest. Love the shot of The Lamb.

Stunning place. Tiny though.

If you’re sunning yourself in either Luton or Katowice I might just be forced to trump you in the Whiwick post!!!! Good stuff and £4 a pint in an average boozer is, unfortunately, often the norm!
