WALES HAS FALLEN

I suspect you think us GBG tickers all live together as a big happy family in a giant mansion in Chipping Sodbury, sharing lifts and market pens and intelligence on micro closing times.

Not a bit of it. With so many Asian gamblers having switched from the Premier League to Guide ticking betting, it’s a cutthroat market at the elite end of pub completists.

Last night I attempted to scupper the Pubmeister’s progress with an 11pm Curry Club in Haverfordwest, never a wise idea when you’re sharing a twin room. FACT : A plain twin in a dull West Wales town costs more than 72 pints of Doom Bar in Spoons (with vouchers).

I’d just completed the whole of Wales that afternoon, and was in celebratory mood. It’s my first ever completed country (is Wales a country ?). Baa Baa Toure was there to see West Wales completed, in a caravan park near Tenby.

I’ve enjoyed the rural Welsh pubs as much as any in the UK.

Often unspoilt, nearly always a welcome at the bar. And locals who can sing Elvis better than Elvis.

That brings my target down to 24. The anticipation is palpable.

Where next ?

  2. Are you saying that Northern Ireland isnโ€™t a country?

And you paid for your room with Doom Bar sourced from the nearest Spoons?

This ticking malarkey is more complicated than I realised!

  3. Getting to the business end of the season now, squeaky bum time.

Iโ€™ll def set my alarm for 7am when you are on BBC Breakfast red sofa chatting to Charlie Steak and Nagga Munchetty about your achievement

Crack on, Wilts next, then a Shetland hol?

    1. Finished Wiltshire, and England last night in lovely Swindon. Where better.

Next tick 6+ ,hours away in Pitlochry, then 4 return ferries to plan.

I’m staying anonymous, apart from Duncan getting Sarah Brightman to sing ‘Time to say goodbye”, obviously.

Reckoning, as a gesture of incontrovertible evidence that it’s the pub that makes the beer not the beers that make the pub, you’re deliberately leaving a Donnington outlet just across border in a little corner of Wiltshire to be the final tick. ๐Ÿคฃ.

      1. Be careful what you wish for, although Donnington have some smashing pubs, regardless of what you might think of the beer! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    1. Yes, that’s the one. I’d be surprised to find anything above NBSS2.5. I haven’t looked at the route in detail yet, but 15 pubs suggests it’ll more than just a day trip.
