I’ve really enjoyed the Marble Arch over the years, and it seems Matthew has as well since moving to Manchester as he suggested it for our pre-match catch up. What good taste he has.
One of these says we’ll do the Glamorous. Has anyone been ? Is there Squid?
It’s hard to appreciate the Marble Arch as it’s overpowered by the high rise, but I like that.
By 11:55 the queue outside was taking care of all available tables, and I felt a bit awkward hogging a table for four as I waited for Matt,
but I ordered his burger and sank a pint of Pint while I waited.
The food has gone back to its old standards, the cask was flying out, it suddenly felt a classic.
Two pints in 45 minutes wasn’t clever.
A third within an hour at 7 Brothers was even dafter, but I wanted to try their tap.
The cask was OK, the keg better, the soundtrack of Manc classics completely naff. I get enough of that 90s rubbish at the Etihad thanks.
Nice to have a proper pint in Manchester with the lad. Now all I have to do is get him to pop in the Ancoats Lad and taste that Bass for me.
I won’t hold my breath.
The Etihad doesn’t just play an endless loop of the Best of The Fall?

Re-Ancoats Lad..his chance to be mentioned in the Bass list. Surely he’ll not miss out on that opportunity.

I kind of like that.

I like pubs which stand alone amongst redevelopment. If you ask me, then the Prince Of Wales in Birmingham, the Pilot in Greenwich, and the Old Queen’s Head in Sheffield all have their charm enhanced from that, along with so many more.

Or the Olde Trip to Jerusalem, standing against all those modern developments at Nottingham Castle and the caves.

Stuff from the C18th is modern compared to the Trip, Martin, but yes, and Cardiff has the Golden Cross behind Lewis’s, then there’s the Briton’s Protection, the Lass O’Gowrie, and the rest back in Manchester again. I suppose that the Roebuck in Sheffield just about counts too?

It’s nice you were able to spend some quality time with your youngest, Martin. The beer the food and the pub itself, all look good, so it is to my eternal shame that I haven’t yet set foot in the Marble Arch.
One day, though!

If you can make it to Stockport you can make it to Manchester Paul. I’ll come with you.

I’m looking at a possible repeat of the trip I had planned, back in January 2018. That was the one I had to abort, due to Eileen’s hospitalisation, so yes please.
