It’s what made this country great.
Boring Brown Bitters, boiled eggs, and little lit up alleys housing bikes and boozers, stuck amid quaint independent stores called VANS, North Face, Joe & The Juice and Fitness World.
Oh, and pubs with a Cask Marque, the absolute guarantee of a Perfect Pint (it says here).
I don’t know if the Pride was drinking well here; I had the Harvey’s. Let the lacings reveal.
Mmmm. I can visualise Etu trying to read the back board right now.
Look at how the tight head on the Harvey’s compares with the foamier topping on the Tiny Rebel;
They know what they’re doing here.
Not sure about the roses in the toby jug though. Is that legal ?
Clues to the address ?
“Charlie says “In 1977 Joan Armatrading released a classic single that shamefully sold less than God Save the Queen” “
(He didn’t really say that, he’s a cartoon).
Zero meridian?

Ooh, mysterious. I thought that was a chain of brewpubs popular in the South ? ;-0

According to Wikipedia, Down To Zero was released in December 1976 and Show Some Emotion in 1978 (although it was taken off the album of the same name which was a 1977 release). Willow, a track from the same LP would then be her only single released in 1977. But I assumed like JRC that you intended to refer to Down To Zero, which I cannot be sure that I have heard before (although one of my brothers was into Joan Armatrading, and I bought the Me, Myself, I album in 1980).

I google that and it takes me to Tennis Court Road in Cambridge !

Google says that is the latitude for Cambridge. Can’t see many places with both VANS and Joe and the Juice

As I’ve said to Old Mudgie many times, that depends which way you’re facing.

I was wondering about all those bikes, but surely Cask Marque doesn’t certify pubs in the Netherlands, does it?

Yes, longitude, just checking to see if anyone spotted that

Actually I was making a ventilator in our poly tunnel, Martin – good guess though.
No idea, I’ll look after supper.

And the answer is….Charlie’s Bar in Copenhagen, home of some great Harvey’s, Tiny Rebel and Dark Star. I wonder if Cask Marque pay the inspector’s travel expenses ?
Apart from actually giving you the name at the end, Willow Alley in Danish is Pilestræde, home to Charlie’s.
Judging by the views from Denmark tonight, it wasn’t hard to work out.
Congrats to Lorenzo and Alan Pennington.

Bugger. I (half) guessed Denmark from the bikes. And then the Shepherd Neame sign, plus the Tiny Rebel glass, threw me off. (sigh)

“GUESS THE PUB GOES ALL BBB”
I’m crap at these so my commenting may be leaner than usual. 😉
“and little lit up alleys housing bikes and boozers, stuck amid quaint independent stores called VANS, North Face, Joe & The Juice and Fitness World.”
From the bikes, I’d almost say that was the Netherlands or Denmark.
“I don’t know if the Pride was drinking well here;”
Is that a Westmalle sign below the Cask Marque?
“Mmmm. I can visualise Etu trying to read the back board right now.”
He must have bloody good eyesight!
“They know what they’re doing here.”
Ok. It’s not on the continent then.
“Not sure about the roses in the toby jug though. Is that legal ?”
Roses go good with anything. At least the one I married does. 😉
“(He didn’t really say that, he’s a cartoon).”
Anthropomorphism at its best! 🙂

I’m delighted to think I’m keeping you and others busy during the interminable lockdown, John !
Actually, there were a few Dutch pubs in the GBG selling Fullers in the ’80s so I can see your logic.

AFAIK, there’s still a rural pub somewhere beside Breda/Tilburg punting cask London Pride.

Yes indeed, neither Scotch nor pickled they’re not proper pub eggs.
Drainpipes and eggs – that’s what we’ve got to look out for in future.

What did you think to the oh-so-British polished plumbing fittings, Paul? Notably the red wheel on the gate valve? Made in Birmingham those, I think.

What’s the measure on the Harveys glass ?
Maybe 500ml, probably 600ml ?

It was a plain old pint to brim, Paul, no mucking about. Tight head, one of the best pints of Harveys I’ve had, and a genuine pub to rival the one in Borough !

Okay, now I can just make out “one pint” very small as the second not top line.
Thanks.
