GUESS THE BASS PUB

Back to Guess the Pub, and a real Bass classic, with some of the biggest sales of the amber nectar anywhere.

Where am I ?

Well, there’s a lot of weird stuff,

and a lot of lil ol’ England in a city known for utopian ideas.

They take their substantial meals seriously here;

And show the utmost respect for our national drinks.

A bit pricey, but well worth a peep in if you’re in town, and Stafford Paul will be thrilled to know he can arrive by rail.

Just watch out for the rodents.

  1. Erm, think I’ve got this. I feel as if I’ve cheated tho. Put me down for a half instead of the usual pint. Unusually far south for a popular Bass pub (in my opinion).

  2. Yes, I’ve got it, not far from where a friend from Stoke moved to on getting married a few years ago.

      1. No, a town that shares its name with a better known one nearly half the distance to the east, not the west.

When I were a lad Aberystwyth seemed a long way for Banks’s to travel.

No idea (of course). But, from the photo below, I wish I could make my man shed/pub look like that!
(I’d need some sort of Tardis thingy in order to do that)

    “Where am I ?”

Well, in the photo above it has a number 9, so I’m guessing something Beatlesy like, Liverpool? ๐Ÿ˜‰

“Well, thereโ€™s a lot of weird stuff,”

Is that the precursor to Tetris below?

“and a lot of lil olโ€™ England in a city known for utopian ideas.”

Utopia, eh? (puts on thinking cap)

Aha! Nottingham, obviously. Because Utopia was that thing by Dennis Moore*, the highwayman in a Monty Python episode that was a riff on Robin Hood. ๐Ÿ™‚
    * (or was it Thomas More?)

“They take their substantial meals seriously here;”

Blimey. It was Thomas More, not Dennis Moore! Ergo, with the hint of substantial meals, I’m going with Oxford. Thomas studied there and Pratchett’s Discworld series indicates that university faculty love them some big meals. ๐Ÿ™‚

“Just watch out for the rodents.”

Wait. Is Hamelin in the UK? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Scratch that, definitely Oxford. Following on from Pratchett’s Discworld (and Unseen University with their big meals) you now segue to the book the Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, also by Pratchett. And, the clincher, printed by Oxford University Press! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers
