SUNSET OVER BARROW MORRISONS

Back in Barrow, I somehow cajoled a tired 21 year old to join me on a tour of a workaday Northern town before tea.

I knew North Irish Sea Dave would want to see my pics, even if you don’t.

We did a circuit of town, stopping so I can bring you the best looking keg pubs on the way to the BAE shipyard. Dizzy Blonde here;

but the Queen’s Arms looks less promising;

Burrows of Barrow is recorded for posterity as being the most central tool factors in the UK, I have no idea what a tool factor does.

But these guys look like they do.

Eerily quiet, but to be fair it WAS 18:37 and the tool factor had shut.

Grief, it was quiet. Spoons, a Chinese takeaway, or the enigmatically named Barrow Indian Cuisine” (how do they think of these names).

In honour of our woolly companions on the hills that day, we had Tandoori Lamb Chops and Lamb Pathia, washed down with pints of Cobra lemonade.

A great end to a day of 33,300 steps and 1,800 calories burnt off. And then put on again in one go.

      1. During my second two terms at Salford Uni, I shared lodgings with a final year student from Barrow. That proved a good choice, as Howard had a van, and gave me a lift in to classes, most mornings.

        The lodgings, or “digs” as they used to call them back then, were on the edge of Eccles and within walking distance of the pedestrianised precinct and nearby Holt’s and Robinson’s pubs.

    Never presume dear boy.

    “Dizzy Blonde here;”

    I like how part of the name above the entrance seems to be in braille. 🙂

    “I have no idea what a tool factor does.”

    According to their website they’re basically a DIY store (plus locksmith).

    “But these guys look like they do.”

    Ooh, aye.

    “(how do they think of these names).”

    They were going to go with Asian but then they’d be confused with the Chinese takeaway?

    “And then put on again in one go.”

    Always the way… at least, according to my dear wife. 🙂

    Cheers
