You’re overdue an early Bee Gees reference, aren’t you ?
No obvious Gibb Bros connection to your first and last town in Cornwall, though based Castle in the Air from their seminal 1972 album A Kick in the Head Is Worth Eight in the Pants could work.
As you know I rate my readers on Blog Advisors, and A1+ readers (I know who you are) will remember my sole post on Launceston from 2016.
It didn’t get the Spoons I said it needed, the Beer Cellar I saw then has closed, and frankly it’s looking a bit sorry for itself. Even the road has caught Covis-19 (possibly the only case in Cornwall, mind).
I SAID the Bell looked the best pub, so why on earth it wasn’t in the Guide back then is beyond me.
I tend to judge a pub by how “public” it really feels. Micros appealing to blokes of a certain age can do one, but The Bell has a separate family room and an age range of 7.5 to 68.5. And anywhere that uses “Children” rather than “Kids” gets an extra 0.5 point.
Which is just as well, as the local beer. something Black, was scraping a 3 with that legitimate boost.
But it didn’t really matter. I felt like I was in a living room. Tourists nattered, Old Boys discussed funerals, and one chap was in raptures at his Pub Quiz success.
“One, One, Three, Six, Wahey !”
“They’ve made it easier just for you”
“Don’t take away my enjoyment, will you ?
None of the characters are necessarily featured in the marvellous pictures on the wall of the family room, which actually shows BRAPA navigating Dorking with an extract from GBG20.
A cracker, but come on Saturday night when the pumps are flowing.
Is that a bucket or a bowler hat?

Unless, of course, they actually allow young goats.

Sadly, they didn’t.
Is “kids” another dreadful Americanism?

Any term the English don’t like is an Americanism.

I was sitting on those very benches outside The Bell just the other week, enjoying some very flat, brown local bitter. I guess that’s how they like it in Cornwall; St Austell might have gone all modern with Tribute, Proper Job and Korev, but a dozen local micros have sprung up to keep the taste of Tinners alive.

I thought ‘Saved by the Bell’ was an American sitcom from the early 90’s?
“STILL not fixed”
They used to make moonshine there?

Blimey. That let’s everyone out but Mudgie.
” Even the road has caught Covis-19″
According to your NHS one of the symptoms is a high temperature. So… if the road is made of asphalt and it’s a sunny day… 😉
“Shabby chic. On sale”
I prefer the window of the store on the left. 🙂
“Loads of beers. Like CAMRAs like”
And cash only, in these times! That goes against the grain.

That can’t be Si. He’s not wearing anything green… or orange.
Cheers
