My exploration is coming to an end, for now. No complaints, just sad. But I might just cope with bringing you some highlights packages from the archives.

Where better to start than Stoke-on-Trent ?

Stoke

Whether you’re looking for a return to 1972, or 1977, Stoke has it all.

BLOKES WITH BRACES

OK, it’s nearly Newcastle-under-Lyme.

  1. On a point of order, it’s just “duck” west of Derby, not “m(y) duck”. Oatcakes m’duck is just wrong.

Supposedly the use of duck (with or without m’) correlates quite closely with the borders of Mercia as was.

    1. QQ,
Yes, but I’ve no recollection of even just “duck” in the Potteries until relatively recently.

Stoke on Trent is only a twenty minute journey for me so why was only 1% of the beer I drank last year in the Potteries ?

      1. That’s interesting Mudge, cos that’s certainly not my recollection. Maybe when younger you were too scary to be called anything except “Please don’t hurt me, you can have all my money”? 😉

@Etu – interesting, I understood that My/me/mi/m’ duck was definitely the East Midlands version, even if accounts seem to vary on which side of the M1 the border is.

  2. Stoke always seems difficult to do a crawl in due to distances. Love the pubs though. Has Stafford Mudgie ever bus crawled through the area?

    1. Dave,
Yes, absolutely right about “distances” – probably planned to restrict the spread of Coronavirus !
And no, I’ve not “bus crawled through the area” as I tend to avoid bumpy buses – but that might change when or if I get a Bus Pass thirteen months from now, that’s if there’s still some proper pubs in the Potteries then.
