More incriminating material to prove us elite GBG tickers don’t stick to cask in Guide pubs.
Leaving Patrick’s at a quarter to midnight on Sunday with two long days ahead on Wales :The Great Tick 2019, surely only Horlicks and Scottish shortbread awaited.
Just like BRAPA in Cornwall, Duncan can’t walk past an open pub that just might get in a future Guide.
In Scotland it would be a shoe-in for GBG20, and not just because the local Beachcomber was NBSS 3.
Parents who wondered what their offspring did on their Sunday nights during £9,250 courses in Applied Applications will be horrified to know it doesn’t involve uploading NBSS scores to WhatPub.
Sadly note taking had gone to pot by now, but I can tell you that the Belle Vue had pleasant staff and customers who were notably more coherent, and better dressed, than us.
The clock struck twelve, but the Belle Vue carried on into Monday morning.
Unlike us. Anyway, a video of Duncan’s drinking arm. Stick with it, it’s quite hypnotic.
Yes, it was a late start the next morning.
The walk up the hill and strong black from Yugen did the trick though.
I think the 3 at the bar are just working out a modern version of the Frost “I know my place” sketch.

“the Belle Vue carried on into Monday morning”
Early lunchtimes is when I’ve known the Belle Vue, not a bad pub I thought, which will have been several hours before Miss TSM’s use of it.
And you’re a year too late to catch her in one of your photographs.

Well dressed? Certainly, I suppose that if he had buttoned them up, then those leg-bottoms would stop those dog fleas and creepy-crafties from crawling up your trousers, yes.
Must buy a pair.

The video clip is a welcome, if brief, new feature of the blog. Almost (but not quite) forgotten about that last pub but happy to accept full responsibility for it.

I would have been miffed to miss it if it pops up in GBG31.
That clip of your drinking arm has given me my best viewed blog post of the week so far 😉

I doubt if there will be a GBG by 2031

It’ll be the “BeerMat Guide to Boozers” by then.

He who gambles, at least gets a pint?
“May have been a second cask. Who cares”
I’m shocked. Opting for the refreshing blonde over the Old Rosie at your age?
(I’d have opted for the Old Rosie; mainly because I’m married to one). 😉
“World beers”
I may not be the consummate man of the world; but those aren’t beers.
“Yellow plastic seats – at least your feet touch the ground”
And it really is ground this time.
“Sadly note taking had gone to pot by now”
The NNTSS* score was less then 2?

“Well dressed man probably a lecturer”
If you call that better dressed… I shudder to think what you were wearing.
“The clock struck twelve,”
But the remaining three customers were unscathed?
“Stick with it, it’s quite hypnotic.”
I think the still life photo’s better.
“Yes, it was a late start the next morning.”
From the shadows I’d say it was early afternoon. 🙂
Cheers

Sorry for cluttering up your comments boxes, and no complaints about Welsh spellings this time, I promise–but I’m having a right trip down memory lane with your recent posts. My wife was born in Dufton and I was born in St Asaph (and went to secondary school there.), and my wife and I met while students at Bangor at the end of the 90s. Paddy (who I assume still run’s Patrick’s Bar) was a barman at Y Glôb (the Globe) at the time, and that’s where I started drinking bitter (Welsh Bitter). I take it y Glôb isn’t in the GBG, although WhatPub says it sells Ossett White Rat (surprising) and St Austell Tribute (not so).
I took it you stayed at Management Centre – it’s got great facilities and good breakfast. My 1st year halls were in the wing where the bedrooms are now, just to the left out of shot from the photo you took, but at the time the building was condemned and not so plush.

Paddy certainly still runs Patrick’s. Love that place. I think he told us his life story at midnight that Sunday !
